New Facilities
|
New Schools in 2012! On November 3, 2009 the Port Clinton community passed a bond issue that will change the future of this school district and our community for years to come. Now, there are even more questions as to when this will take place and how much money will we receive from the federal government. The Port Clinton City School District was one of 38 school district in the State of Ohio eligible to receive funding to purchase reduced interest school construction bonds knows as Qualified School Construction Bonds (QSCB). Our district allocation was a guaranteed $3.2 million with the possibility of receiving more depending on the number of districts that passed their November issue. The district is hopeful that the amount will exceed expectations, and may know the exact amount in approximately 30 days. Another frequent question is about the timeline of the new facilities. The Program of Requirements begins immediately which involves working with bond council to secure funding for the project and finalizing various contracts. Over the next six months, schematic design work will take place. Initial site work will begin as early as Summer 2010 along with design development for seven months. It is anticipated that construction will begin late Fall 2010 with classes to start in new facilities for the 2012-2013 school year. |
