After two years Michael returned to Miami as a graduate assistant to work on his masters degree. Michael then moved to Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. One year later he moved from the University to DeKalb High School where he began a 34 year love affair with the school district and town. During his 34 years at DeKalb High School, Michael was head football coach and had the opportunity to work with four young men who went on to play professional football. Michael also spent 16 years as the assistant track coach, and 27 years as the assistant wrestling coach. In 1993 Michael retired.
