After graduating from Bowling Green State University, Joe Lukac returned to Port Clinton High School in 1951 to become head football coach, head track coach, and reserve basketball coach. Over the next twenty years Joe proved that a player can come back to his hometown and become a very successful coach. His dynamic personality inspired his players to excel and to take pride in their accomplishments. Joe developed a winning tradition in Port Clinton and will be remembered as an intense competitor, both as athlete and as coach. He also established himself as a concerned member of the community and cared especially about about the young people. Joe was a church lecturer, chairman of St. Jude Bike-o-Thon and was involved in many charitable events. He served on City Council and was later elected President of City Council. Joe continued his teaching career and died in 1987. He is survived by his wife, Irene of Port Clinton; son, Joey; and daughter Jane (Toll).
