Died in bomb attack after POW ship was hit by U.S. Navy.
Was buried at sea near coast of Formosa.

Art Burholt was awarded a track scholarship to Michigan State Normal College, now know as Eastern Michigan University, where he earned his teaching degree. After graduation, he became the football, basketball, and track coach at Port Clinton High School until he was called to active duty. Art served his country with distinction and lost his life in World War II. Art Burholt was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal, among other military decorations. The 1926 Revista describes Art Burholt "As fair and clean an athlete as you will ever meet."
