Our Community

Our History

Education began in Port Clinton, Ohio with one teacher, Mr. John Sylvester, teaching in local homes until 1838, the year the first schoolhouse was built.  The schoolhouse was erected only 10 years after the City of Port Clinton was founded.  Since that time many educators and boards of education have been committed to the education of the youth of this community.  The first graduate of Port Clinton High School graduated in 1885, since that time thousands have followed in her footsteps.  Many alumni of Port Clinton City Schools continue to make an impact all over the world and within our own community.

Our Board of Education
The current Board of Education continues the tradition of enhancing the education of each and every child in our school buildings.  From Talented and Gifted  programs, special education, specialized curriculum, fine arts, technology and a wide-range of  extracurricular activities and athletics, Port Clinton City School District students have numerous opportunities available to enhance their educational experience.  We boast the highest acceptance rate to colleges, universities, and military academies and the largest number of vocational opportunities for our students.  The Port Clinton Board of Education is committed to helping our students “Proudly Chart a Course for Success.”
