Welcome to the Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment page……… The mission of the Port Clinton City Schools is to inspire excellence in character and performance in every student by providing a safe, supportive and challenging environment, using community resources and by empowering our students to positively impact society. The Parameters, in part, further charge us with the following: • Student learning will be our first priority. • We will always expect excellence from staff and students. • We will always educate according to the abilities of each student. • We will always use research and data to determine best practices. -Strategic Planning documents, 2009 As part of the Strategic Plan (2009) and the Ohio Improvement Process (2009), we are engaged in continued discussion of the following questions as part of our professional collaboration and work to increase student achievement: 1. What is it that students need to know, understand, and be able to do in each course or curricular area? 2. How will we know when students know what they need to know? 3. How do we best assess student learning for each course or curricular area? 4. How do we help those students who are not successful in learning all that they need to learn? 5. How do we help those students who learn what they need to know but may be capable of extending that learning even further? One of the key components in constructing courses of study based on the Ohio Academic Content Standards, developing aligned assessments, and pacing our curriculum is the overarching goal of increasing student achievement. Therefore, administrators and teachers of all grade levels and departments meet regularly and are engaged in ongoing curriculum and assessment work The curriculum web page has been provided as a resource to highlight the work that is being done by our staff in all grade levels and departments. It is also an effort to involve all of our stakeholders--staff, students, parents, and community members--in the process of working together collaboratively to increase student achievement. -Jack Nitz, Director, Student Services |
